One of my main challenges for this event was to use the Dexcom to its max to maintain a good blood glucose throughout the event. I have NEVER managed to attain good control at an event, especially when it involves the adrenaline fuelled jumping events. The heat also poses a problem for my diabetes management so this was going to be a real challenge.... or so I thought.
I have borrowed an apple watch to make the most of the glucose monitor, meaning that I could read my glucose on my watch providing my phone was 6m away. It can be a bit of a hassle pulling out my phone, unlocking it and then selecting the app. It's also not easy to ride in the warm up with a phone in your hand! 😂
It was AMAZING! I look at my watch and boom! a value with a little arrow telling me if I'm stable, going up or going down so I can act accordingly. BUT the best thing is that it alarms if I'm going either end of my target range..... and relax! one less thing the stress about..... Kinda!

Dressage: Very nice, but still need more Perzazz!! think we both felt like melting! 30.3
SJ: 2 down ... so frustrating! 1st pole she was having a poo! and the next one she was spooking at the hedge. I got cross and got after her and then she jumped amazing. Grr!
XC: Brilliant! She just loves it. Just a few things to iron out on my side to make things a little more comfortable (position, stirrup irons and strength).
My blood sugars are usually 20-26mmol/L when finishing XC, but they were 10 with a climb to a whopping 11mmol/L 30 mins after! I felt well, I felt alert. Bloody amazing! Came an expected 18th after 2 poles - one day I will have a BE rosette, one day!
Again, THANK YOU to Kate Steenson and Josie (from Germany!) for being my support crew. It's always so much more fun with company xx
